presidential debate. not so good for barack obama. definitely good for mitt romney. a lot of folks concluding that romney had one of the stronger debate performances last night in presidential debating history, at least in recent memory. that's not good news for the president. you can tell how both these campaigns feel about their performance last night based on what they're doing today. we have not seen mitt romney out in front of television cameras so far today, but president obama hosted a rally in colorado today, giving him a chance to have almost a do over from last night's performance. take a listen. >> when i got on to the stage, i met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be mitt romney. but it couldn't have been mitt romney because the real mitt romney has been running around the country for the last year promising $5 trillion in tax cuts that favor the wealthy. the fellow on stage last night said he didn't know anything about that. >> and bill, the battle continues now. in the battleground states, we're going to see both candidates in virginia. the president is also go

-person debate last night. i think president obama had a stand-in. i am convinced that was not him. he must have had the flu. that romney drove these other market. he is pro-business. he really invigorated the next shot at winning some people over. especially in ohio. liz: the question is was that really president obama and was not really that romney last night? [laughter] john, you are looking at that activity over at the imax. we just talked about crude oil. gasoline is something we always watch for the consumer. >> if you look at what wti has done in the last few weeks, it has really underperformed. ethylene prices have been rather strong. when we look at today, some of the supply concerns in texas and new jersey, it is not a surprise it is up over 5%. if you look at wti, you have the s&p on multiyear highs. you have crude oil selling down to the lows. at least in the last couple months, if you ask bernanke a few weeks ago, this would be the result, you would have to be fairly happy. you had the s&p beginning to rally as much of wall street pretty much discounted romney's victory. r

events. people are clearly very fired up. what they saw was a fantastic debate performance by governor romney. what they also saw was a contrast between someone and governor romney who understand the fooacts and could relate th to every day people's lives. president obama, it wasn't just that his performance was listless. president obama, there was though substance there. you always hear the expression sell the sizzle, not the steak. i always say if you don't have the steak, there's no sizzle. >> all right. from politics to the stock market. a stock you know very well. hewlett-packard. stock has been punished. meg whitman, the new ceo, is coming under fire. here's what she said. >> i'm confident 2013 will be the bottom of the turn around. then you can look forward, i think, to good growth in 2014 and 2015 as those products kick in, the i think vestments we're making in things like i.t., sales, organization, and training. those things will start to kick in. i really think 2014 will be quite a bright year for hp. >> what do you think of what she said? do you have any sympathy for her? >>

the hour. stick around. we are just hours away from the first presidential debate. fox business's peter barnes has up for review. so much riding on this for the romney camp. >> that is right. the new wall street journal poll shows a statistical dead heat. president obama leading mitt romney 49-46 within a three point margin of error. both of the debaters will be coming this afternoon. one of them may be there already but both will be here to do their standard walk through. they will get up on the stage and stand at the podium and check the lighting and placement of shares and cameras and everything they need to do and that is not a non important thing. i was reading up on some past debates here. in president reagan's debate with vice president mondale one of his aides came out during the walk-through and noticed that the lighting and president reagan was not very good. it highlighted his sunken eyes believe it or not so the aid ended out figuring out there was a reflection of of the podium under president reagan's eyes. so he put out a cab to block the light and said that made a c
